The "Besana model" of sustainable development, both at an ethical and environmental level, was one of the highlights of the WBCSD Asean Meeting, held in Bangkok on 25th March. For the occasion, the President of the Besana Group, Pino Calcagni, has held a speech on "Climate Smart Agriculture", illustrating how to put into practice an intelligent agriculture, respectful of the climate and the territory, and with a real commitment to "Reducing food loss and waste".

WBCSD is a global CEO-led organization of over 200 leading international companies, working together to accelerate the transition to more sustainable production practices. The purpose of this association is to make member companies increasingly align with this principle. The realities that make up this organization come from different economic sectors and from all the main economies, with a combined turnover of over 8.5 billion dollars and 19 million employees. In his speech, Pino Calcagni recalled, among other things, that the Besana Group is among the founding companies of the Global Agri-Business Alliance (GAA), an international organization to which voluntary companies from the private sector adhere on a voluntary basis with the objective to concretely address the main environmental and social challenges of agricultural supply chains and rural communities. GAA, through its members, pursues five types of activities: establishes objectives and activities to be undertaken to support sustainable development, in specific areas of interest; select working groups that provide mutual support to achieve the goals approved by the Council; develop the appropriate tools to pursue the set objectives; agree on the measurement and reporting methodology; remove structural and political barriers that prevent the agricultural sector from contributing fully to achieving sustainable development goals.
